Myth or Fact: Fresh Fruit Is Better Than Dried Fruit

Fruits are a healthy option because it contains allot of fiber and nutrient content is high. Fruits could be handled easily in your bags while traveling especially the dried fruits they give you a lot of energy for a long time. Dried fruits are best in winter as they make you warm while fresh fruits are good in summer as they make you hydrated all they like watermelon. Fresh fruits have been the best option, but there are also many benefits of dried fruits. If you need to attain benefit from fruits either dried or fresh, you should know the serving size that you have to take.

  1. Nutrient density

These are those foods which include or have vitamins, minerals and other compounds which promote health and contain fewer calories. Dried foods and fresh foods both are packed with many nutrients, and both are healthy foods. Two foods have a lot of difference, but the main difference is that when the water is taken out from dried foods, it concentrates both calories and nutrients.

However, when you compare average serving sizes, fresh and dried varieties contains equal amounts of sugar and calories.  For example, Dried apple one serving ¼ cup contain 52 around calories and sugar 12 grams. Fresh apple one serving about 1 cup contain 65 around calories and sugar 13 grams. When you stick to proper standard serving size, then the sugar and calorie contents of two verities does not significantly differ. Fresh foods serving size offers more water and volume than fruits which are dry. It also helps you to remain full for a long time. It is good for those people who are trying to lose weight.

There are many vitamins, but the dehydration process only occurs in some, those nutrients which are sensitive to heat, for example, vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin B they become unstable. They result in diminished amounts slightly. Such as fresh apples 2 cups provide 6 milligrams vitamin C and four micrograms folate whereas dried apples ¼ cup contain only 0.8 mg vitamin C and there is no folate. On the other hand, dried fruit as a whole provides a lot of the similar health benefits as long as fresh, consumed in suitable amounts.

So, it is up to you to choose either the fresh fruits or dried fruits. Both have their own advantages and you can choose them as per your requirements.
